Welcome to our new Squirrels Drey!

This month we have invested our first Squirrel Drey into the 6th Farnborough Scouts family. Squirrels is the youngest section in Scouting catering for 4-5 year olds, and we are extremely excited to have opened this new section!

We also welcome, Owl (Chris, section leader), Fawn (Sam), Bee (Rebecca), Robin (Anna), and Stoat (Tom) as our new Squirrel Leaders - who have already started to have fun in their new volunteer roles.

We are really chuffed to have started this section as there is a high demand for Squirrel places in the district. We look forward to seeing our new squirrels earn their badges and progress through the group!

Beaver and Scout Assistant Leaders wanted!

We are looking for additional volunteer Leaders for our Beaver and Scouts sections. This is an amazing opportunity for someone to flesh out their CV, and gain experience in working as part of a team to deliver a programme of activities to children aged 6-8 (Beavers) and 10.5-14 (Scouts) years old.

Being a Leader is a very rewarding experience, and all our leaders have fun in the role as well as gaining useful skills to take back to their workplace, such as organisation, leadership, and planning skills. There are so many badges for children to earn - that no matter what your skills or background - you will have something to offer and help inspire children to learn #skillsforlife. Our current leaders come from all walks of life, so why not see what you can achieve by joining us? You will be offered support and training every step of the way, so what are you waiting for?

If you or someone you know would be interested in giving a few hours a week to join our family of Scouts - then please get in touch with our Group Scout Leader on gsl@6thfarnboroughscouts.org.uk.

Putting the programme of activities into your calendar

For those that haven't done so - you can put the programme of activities for your child's section into your on-line calendar (like google calendars) via the OSM parent portal. It's quick and easy - and will let you see what your children will be getting up to for each meeting. Follow these simple steps to get it added to your calendar.

Note this example uses google calendar - so please adapt as necessary for other online calendar apps.

  1. Log into the parent portal and go to the My children section
  2. Click on your child and then on the "Programme" tab and the programme of activities will appear
  3. Click on the button that says "Calendar feed" in the top right hand corner
  4. A pop up window will appear with a looooonnnngggg link in it. Click on the "Copy to clipboard" button to copy this link
  5. Open up your google calendar, and click the "+" button next to the "Other calendars" link on the left hand side
  6. Click on the "From URL" option
  7. Paste in the URL you copied earlier [please DO NOT tick the "make the calendar publicly accessible" option
  8. You should then see a new calendar listed in your list of calendars. Go back to your main calendar and you will start to see entries for each week in your calendar. All entries will be given a specific "colour" so you can easily see them - you can amend the colour to what you like via the calendar settings
  9. Repeat as necessary if you have other children in different sections
